It’s Not Just You, Being a Teenager Sucks
Okay, I do get it that being teenager sucks, so stop posting about all your insecurities on your social media, I get it that you have been hurt and betrayed by someone that you loved, someone that used to be the reason why the world felt so perfect, now they became the perfect example of why there’s still wars and world hunger on Earth.
I get it.
If by knowing the facts you’re not the only person who’s having the same problem will make you feel better, then I will say it to you.
Being a teenager sucks, and it’s not just you.
The desires of achieving great things in this world, and yet we looked in ourselves and we felt that we are just this useless non-entity, to hell with our dreams, we don’t even hate the real job to achieve those things.
We spent most of our lives, relying on someone’s else, and the worst part was, we even rely our own happiness on someone’s else life, it feels like placing an all-in bet on a poker table, and yet, in a very short time, we felt that we had the urge to figure everything in life, to figure what we wanted to do for the rest of our lives — Woah, slow down chiefs, that’s too much thought for us.
I’m a teenager too, I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do with my life, and the more days have passed, the more confused I am.
To make everything worse, we look into our smartphones, scrolling feeds into feeds looking at our friend’s posts, having the best time of their lives, enjoying their vacations with the beloved ones, with a blank face and a little role in our eyes, we said,
“This is not fair, why they seem to be happy? meanwhile, I’m just eating these Doritos for three days straight while trying to figure out how to be happy, to hell with that I’m going back to my Netflix’s world, the reality seems to be too much to handle for me”
If there’s one thing we good at as a teenager, it’s must be our abilities to make things from bad to worst.
“Okay, I have been hurt again, time to update my Spotify playlist and delete all my pictures from Instagram.” — by the way, Bruno Major is a great choice when it comes to heartbreak.
We were drunk by those ‘get rich schemes’, and inspired easily.
Although the word ‘inspired’ doesn’t seems to be pretty bad, but if you get inspired by 27 different things at the same time, and somehow you still think that doing all those things at the same time is possible, because your teacher’s mindset of ‘hard words will pay it all’.
How far that mindset took you in life anyway? Are you rich yet?
Once, I was there too, I saw a movie about three engineers making great inventions in their lives, I told myself “I want to be an engineer”, but at the same time my favorite Youtubers showed his expensive house, and he was able to build it because of Youtube, “I guess, I can be an engineer and a YouTuber at the same time”.
Then I saw Finding Forrester movie, “I guess I also can be a writer too” — Should’ve just stuck with Finding Nemo.
I know how exactly hard it is to be a teenager, and I try to write about it, not because I’m worthy, but because I want to embrace my fellow teenagers to face everyday problems.
Dealing with life as a teenager,
Accepting that 90% of your ambitions will be failed
You’re in your golden age, you’re ambitious to achieve great things in life, end world hunger, or even create a vaccine to cure COVID-19, there’s nothing wrong with being ambitious.
Now, here comes the harsh word that everybody hates,
Failure.
No matter how much you hate that word, I hate it even more.
But remember as a teenager, it’s not our job to make everything right, it’s not even our job to make things work, we are still discovering ourselves, and that’s good enough.
There will be days when you’re sitting on your sofa and wondering why everything’s not working out as they’re supposed to be, your grades, your ambitions, your relationships, but those things are not even the case, you have tried it, and that was good enough because it’s the efforts that count the most.
Try everything that you want, don’t be scared of it, knowing most of what we do will end horribly, but that’s not an excuse to stop trying, you might be failed, but you gain something that is more important for yourself, experiences.
It is no doubt that failures make us strong.
So try everything that you want, and remember, one thing at a time — take it easy fellas.
Keeping the pace is good but keeping the peace is more important
Remember that nobody is rushing you, to hell with society when they told you that life is a race, life is a competition, take it easy because you’re not competing with anyone else, everybody has their own timing when it comes to achieving something.
Trudeau became Canadian Prime Minister when he was 36, while Trump became the President of the US at his 70.
Remember, timing.
Being a teenager is the most important of your life, all those great speeches of our grandfathers,
“Ahh, I do remember when I joined the army…”
“Back in those days, we call Micky Mouse as Mike…”
“We were so drunk that night, I don’t even remember what happened…”
Those stories happened when they were young when they were as foolish as you are right now, do you ever think it had struck into their minds that one day they will have a family and became a grandfather? Nope, they were too busy enjoying their lives.
Now, it’s our time to enjoy our lives too.
Although I know how it’s fun it is when you become a grandfather, and start your story with “Ahh, I do remember that one time I stole a bicycle because I was running late for my class”, but “Ahh, I do remember when I was OD’d” its nowhere near fun.
I know we are making great stories for our kids right now, but don’t that become the reason that we are destroying our lives.
Final thoughts
Being a teenager must be one of the most confusing and yet amazing times in our lives. Don’t take it for granted.
We are living in the modern world where you can basically read everything you want, I know how suck it is to be a teenager, and I have dedicated myself this year to write more about this matter, and hopefully make your life less suck.
