In a World Full of Hatred be The Light That Sparks Kindness
Living in a modern world where technology makes everything easier for us to interact and see what’s happening on another side of the world, our social media feeds filled up with cruel things that happened in this world.
Last night I saw an interview of a couple of journalists from The Washington Post, whose given the job to cover the war in Syria, there’s a psychological side to that job where they had to see all those cruelties and graphic images from the war.
I admired all the journalists who are covering stories over stories to make the world realized that our fights for peaceful mankind haven’t over yet.
We often to saw it too, one too many actually.
Seeing bad things that happen in the world, we become so pessimistic about the future, every crime was taboo before, now it has become something that we are used to.
That’s the worst part that could possibly happen to us, we getting more and more used to it until we define hatred as something normal.
From people mocking each other in Facebook comments to giving cruel words on Instagram when someone’s posting a picture.
It’s the world that we live in right now, the question is, can we do something about it?
Social media as a two-edged sword.
Information is something that is easy to access nowadays, even my 5 years old brother has his own Instagram account, but that’s what concerns me the most, because I can’t always be there to see and controlling what’s happening on his feeds.
Looking in a pessimistic way, it’s easier than ever to say some hate speech, all you have to do is type something in your smartphones.
Most people actually distinguish social media and the real world, but they often forgot that social media are owned and used by real human beings, they have hearts, they are not only just usernames.
About two years ago my friend joined an organization in his college, he was quite famous for his amazing speech in front of people, later he became the leader of that organization, it’s something that he and I as a friend could be proud of.
Little that we know, the organization made a simple mistake, a mistake that could happen to everyone, but the media saw it as an act of racism, I believed him when he didn’t intend to do it, but people on the internet act like they were God.
They began attacking him personally rather than the organization itself, now I have seen all the hatred of people on social media every day, it seems that we are being watched all the time, and one simple mistake could turn your life into the most different way.
But seeing one of my friends getting cyber-bullied is something that hurt me the most, and I took it personally.
It’s funny how they thought one simple comment could do nothing to his personal life, but I have been there listening to his stories of how people were mocking him, how people saying something bad about him, even they were wishing him to die.
Once I was so pissed about it and went approaching one of the usernames who bullied him, when I confronted that account, he said “It’s just one comment, everyone is doing it”.
Just because everyone is doing it that doesn’t mean it is the right thing to do.
Judging from his replies, I do understand know-how hatred has become a common thing for people.
But still, there’s hope for mankind and I have always believed that we can turn the world into more beautiful ways.
Social media is like a double-sided sword it could be really destructive yet so powerful to cure the problems that it’s created at the same time.
How about this time rather than we use it as a destructive tool we use it as a medicine to cure the problems?
Now I’m challenging ourselves to use it to spread kindness.
Lack of appreciations
Knowing that everyone has been through some difficult times in life and yet we are still shy to appreciate what people have been through.
We have been there too, we have been facing the problem, we have been cried and feel the loneliness that makes the night a little bit longer than it used to be. We know how it feels to be unappreciated.
I know how hard life is — how confusing it is — and that’s happening not only just to you, it’s happening to everyone, a little bit of appreciation might be just the right thing that we needed the most.
I believed deep in our hearts we always wanted to appreciate another human being, but it’s rather awkward to be able to do it, because we are just simply not used to it.
It’s hard for me as well, and people are not familiar with the concept of appreciation, and I tried my best to apply it everywhere, especially to people who are the closest to me.
I have written an article appreciating one of my friends because I believed she deserved it, in fact she deserved a thousand articles about her.
No matter how simple it is, even one kindness could touch a human soul, it could lighten their day. If we were given the choice to make a random kindness, there’s no better way than to do it, trust me, it will only benefit them and the most important thing it will benefit yourself.
You may not be famous nor rich for doing it, but you will have something for yourself, something that can’t be bought by money, it’s the emotions.
No matter how cruel the world it is or how pains you have felt, it’s not a justification to make you create another hatred, but knowing how hard life is, you do know very well that a simple act of kindness could make someone’s life better.
Because in the end, everything that we do to others will only come back to ourselves.
